Coffee Cup Secession - DGHW

The Secession building is another icon of the Jugendstil of Vienna. It was constructed after the plans made by Joseph Maria Olbrich (1867-1908) in the year 1898. It received its name from the avantgardist artist group, the 'Secession' which used this building as their exhibition hall. Already the facade and the great building was a manifesto that showed power and pride against the Vienna Künstlerhaus which was regarded as outdated in their artistic program. In fact, the laurel as the prevailing symbol underpins that the secessionists saw themselves on the winning side of history.

This Coffee mug is part of a series of 6 golden patterned porcelain cups inspired by the facades of the most famous Viennese Art Nouveau buildings.
