Glasses Case and Cleaning Cloth: Paul Klee, Separation in the EveningGlasses Case and Cleaning Cloth: Paul Klee, Separation in the Evening
When the Swiss Paul Klee joined the Bauhaus, he was one of the highly regarded painters and theorists of colour in modernity. Many of the classes show his experimenting with the students on various colour schemes, and the way one colour next to the other influence the perception of colours. His main idea was structure and reduction by at the same time an enhancement of colour variety and both bridging and distinguishing between these.
As our example shows that is based on a watercolour of the year 1922, exercises are so impressive that they are works of art in their own rights.
Separation in the Evening (1922)
is a wonderful watercolour that Klee did while working at the Bauhaus in Weimar. It shows direction, contrasts, but also stepping stones from cold to warmth, from warmth to cold, blue to gold and gold to blue.
