Frederick II the Great King of Prussia

Frederick II is more widely known as Frederick the Great. He ruled Prussia from 1712 until his death in 1786. He is known to have pushed Prussia into advancement and progress - not only economically and politically but as well as in the arts and philosophy.

Many architectural beauties that still stand in Germany at present, such as the Berlin State Opera, the State Library Berlin, St. Hedwig's Cathedral, and Prince Henry's Palace (now Humboldt University), are legacies of this renowned King. Frederick II is buried at his favorite summer residence Sanssouci in Potsdam, which was where he unwound from the stress of his executive duties and gave time for the arts and philosophy.
