Prussian King Frederick the Great
Frederick the Great (Frederick II) reigned in Prussia from 1740 until his death in 1786.
His youth interest was not for the military, but more for music, arts and philosophy, but he was known also by virtue of his new organizing and modernizing the Prussian army and his involvement in the seven yearth' war. Beside his activity for the development of the arts and the Enlightenment in Prussia, Frederick was an influential military theorist, whose analysis covered issues of tactic and strategy, mobility and logistics.
Frederick modernized the Prussian bureaucracy, reformed the judicial system and made it possible for not nobles to become judges and high functionary. Frederick also excited the people of other nationalities and faiths to come to Prussia, while he had also the prejudice against jews and resorted to the oppressive measures against conquered Poland during the First Partition.
Frederick is buried at his favorite summer residence Sanssouci in Potsdam that was the place, where he relaxed from his governemental duties and passed his time by the arts and philosophy. The bookmark “Frederick the Great”
