The bookmark “Ginkgo”
Ginkgo biloba, or simple ginkgo, is the only living species of Ginkgophyta, all others being extinct; it can be dating back 270 million years. The tree was cultivated in China, from where came to Japan. The name Ginkgo is a false writing of the Japanese "gin kyo", "silver apricot".
Ginkgo was mentioned in chinese and japanese mythology, used in traditional medicine and served as a source of food. It was brought by Dutch seamen from Japan to Europe and planted here since 1730 as an ornamental tree in the parks and gardens of Europe.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), the German poet and naturalist made the Ginkgo tree famous in the west lands more then all other east-asian plant, as he published in his book of poems "West-Eastern Divan" the poem "Ginkgo biloba".
With its herbal properties and the two-piece sheet of Ginkgo was early to symbolize harmony and a long life.
Your pleasure on the reading will augment, if you use the nice bookmark with the image of ginkgo. It is an elegant and precious present for everyone, not only for the book lover.Details
