Rumi, or according to his full name Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad, also known as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī (1207-1273) is one of the greatest mystic Sufi of the Muslim world. Born in Persia he has quickly become known across the old world. Still today, he bridges East and West and is recognised by Turks, Persians, Muslims in West and East Asia. He himself was capable of using various languages in his works, even though Persian was his mother tongue. His appeal for people today can be seen by his print run, as he is one of the best selling authors still today both in the US, but also in Arabic countries.
For our brooch we have chosen the mystic flower which combines Rumi with Eckhart, and the flower carries the unique stem, inscribed with Rumi's words, known from his saying “Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”
