This palace is often counted as the German rivals of Versailles. Sanssouci palace was designed and built by Georg Wenceslaus von Knobelsdorff around the mid of the 18th century in the more intimate Rococo style, is much smaller than French Baroque palace and has also numerous temples and follies in the park.
The name of the castle has a great importance: it come from a French "sans souci", what means "without concerns" and can be translated as "no worries" or "carefree", whereby is symbolizing, that the palace was not a symbol of power, but a place for relaxation.
