When plain and functional just does not cut it for you anymore, take a plunge and get a set of 6 of these custom made sweet, breath-of-spring themed glass, mug or cup coasters! They serve both decorative and functional purposes that plain coasters just cannot give. These Royal Flowers tile coasters also hide another secret: they aren't your ordinarily painted garden flowers. They are inspired by a still life painting of flowers and butterflies by Prussian painter Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker. Today the painting, entitled "Still Life with an arrangement of various flowers", hangs within the apartment halls of the former Queen of Prussia Elizabeth Ludovika in Charlottenburg Palace.

Gottfried Wilhelm Völcker

Primarily a porcelain painter but was also known for painting very realistic still images of flowers and fruits in oil and watercolor, Völcker trained under the well-known porcelain painter, Johann Friedrich Schulze at the Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin. Brilliant as he was, he graduated from being a student and was thereafter promoted to manage the entire factory for the period 1833 until 1848. Even earlier on, Völcker was already a professor and was awarded membership of the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin and subsequently joined the Berlin Artists Association in 1814. He frequented Vienna, Paris, and the Netherlands for workshops and study tours, and the influence of these excursions are evident in his artworks.
