The ancient name of the Coliseum in Rome was "Amphitheatrum Flavium". It was the largest amphitheatre in the ancient world and a model for the arenas in Verona, Arles, Nimes.

This modeling sheets represents Coliseum in rich details and requires accuracy and concentration even from an experienced hobbyist. In free interpretation, the finished work is untouched, while the world-famous Coliseum in Rome is now a ruin.

Even Rome was not built in a day

After carefully cutting, joining and gluing together all the pieces, the modeling sheets Coliseum built up an amphitheater at a scale of 1: 400. When working on these modeling sheets for a while you get a marvelous and realistic round theater with a removable segment for a better view. The cross-sectional view on the modeling sheet Coliseum shows the step-like rising rows of seats for spectators.

The modeling sheets

Coliseum show the finer points of the interior fittings of the round theater. Those round theaters without roof were designed for entertaining people with gladiator fights and chariot racing. Spectators were betting on the fighters had always a clear view of the scene. In Caesars times amphitheatres built of wood have been well known. The wooden constructions were not very safe, so they went over to building stone buildings.

On the colour printed modeling sheets Coliseum the materials are clearly identifiable. Likewise, the narrow cloth awning covering the entire rotunda.

The size of the model argues for modeling sheet Coliseum

The good material of the 47 cm x 39 cm large modeling sheet Coliseum imparts the strong position of the complete works. Even many years later you can recognize many subtleties (if you want to achieve this). Such as the endless round arches on every floor, where stone figures or busts can be seen one by one.
