Gustav Klimt, Expectation, Figurine

In his work Fulfilment, Klimt works again on a theme that is also present in two other of his very important works, namely The Kiss and the famous Frieze of
Beethoven. Klimt shows a couple, kissing and holding each other, being intimate. With his symbolic environment of gold, jewellery and light, Klimt embeds his figures in a byzantine form of surrounding which transcends the purely physical act of loving.

The many squares and all the shades of golden colours, of whites, blacks, he also blurs the boarders between the genders.

Stoclet Palace

The Stoclet Palace in Brussels, Belgium, is a privately owned Palais by the Stoclet Family. Although part of the world heritage of UNESCO, it is closed to visitors. The original of the Fulfilment Klimt created as a mosaic, the famous stoclet frieze, together with the Tree of Life and The Standing Female Figure for this Palace of the Stoclet family. The big mansion was built by Josef Hoffman as architect for the finance man and banker Adolphe Stoclet. With its art works of Klimt and its architecture, it is seen as one of the most elaborated private mansions of the early 20th century. Hoffmann himself was a famous artist, not only an architect. Like Klimt, he was part of Secession exhibitions, although he in 1905 he moved away from the Secession. He was then a co-founder of the famous Wiener Werkstätte which onlz closed with the upcoming of the Nazis in Austria. In these Werkstätte he created his iconic 'Sitting machine', a reclining chair, but also lamps, tea glass sets and others.
