Queen Louise of Prussia

Before Princess Diana, the endearment "Queen of Hearts" was given by a German poet to Louise of Mecklenburg - Strelitz. Following her grandiose wedding to King Frederick William III in November 1797 Louise of Mecklenburg - Strelitz became Louise the Queen consort of Prussia. King Frederick William III and Queen Louise had 9 children - two of whom would later become ruling sovereigns, Frederick William IV of Prussia and German Emperor Wilhelm I. Her kindness, simple and charitable nature earned her the respect and admiration of Prussia's citizens. She was so well known and was such an admired sovereign and political actor during her time that until today she is remembered as the woman who stood up to Napoleon Bonaparte during the Napoleonic Wars to plead for the Prussian kingdom and for mercy for the people. Her tragic death at the young age of 34 caused such grievance among the Prussians and those who knew of her but it also given rise to a huge following of her legacy for the years to come and earned her Napoleon Bonaparte's respect and admiration.
